Okay so she knows she buried her head in the sand, I've been through all the "what you should have done" messages... but in the mean time I need to help her get the electric back on ASAP!! She is at home with two small kids and no heating or lights....

The gas and electric meters were both removed... but the gas meter was replaced with a "key meter"... the electric one wasn't replaced at all... i am wondering whether this is cos the door was ripped off in recent winds?

How can i get her back on??

Please help!!

Ring the supplier tell them about the children, they should come put in a key meter for her. When you ring ask for a clear time line of when they put one in don t hang up without knowing a specific day that this will happen.
Then get her to read and post on the dfw forum to herself out lol.
    Good luck

I was trying to figure out what high winds had to do with meters then i realised that they must be in outside boxes. Many gas cos operate a force fit operation for debt. They follow the usual long route of trying to interact with customers but in the end,if they dont play ball, they get round there with a warrant and either cut off or fit a card meter. I have no idea what leccy cos do but they may well be wary of fitting a supply in a rain lashed outside meterbox with no door.
  • Water and electricity don't mix!! That said the meter worker who removed the meter should have repaired the missing door if they had spares (a big 'if', as they rarely do) at the very least they should have reported the missing door and arranged a replacement.

It seems very strange that the meter wasn't replaced with a pre payment item; maybe there's more to this than meets the eye, as the only time a whole metering system is removed without replacement I know of has been because the occupant has been tampering with the meter.

    Why?

The DCA has done his job in executing the warrant. There meter door isnt his problem, thats the problem of the customer and the local meter operator.

Meter enclosures are nothing to do with the energy supplier. The property owner is responsible for maintaining them. You can get a new one here
