argh this whole tax thing is doing me heed in!!

HELP!!!!!

In april I was made redundant and within 9 days started working for DSGI PLC at Currys Digital.
I submitted my p45 on my first day and somewhere along the line between manager and HR is never arrived...

my first 4 payslips were taxed at BR rate then I was issued code 543l after filling in a p46 and sending it to HR.
then after Brown's rebate thing in sept, it changed to 603L.
I have had no rebate of any kind, jsut my due commission and bonuses from the firm.

I did ask HR when my last payslip was issued and they told me that if no repayment was included on my next one, then I should ring up.
I get paid thursday and payslip arrives friday.

if I dont get anything this time, whats my best course of action.
is there a way of calculating how much i'm due from the start of this job to the time when i was assigned a tax code?

do I contact DSGI HR services or the tax office?

help please!!!!

am happy to share any further info if someone can help

  • Are you on 603L W1/M1, sometimes noted as 603L X on your payslip, or just 603L?

you dont actually get a rebate, you just pay less tax than you otherwise would.
If you pay varies a lot then it might be hard to determine the reduction.

If you post up your total gross pay to date
and your total tax to date
if you are paid monthly then say what month or if weekly give the week number

then we could determine if your tax is correct

on your August pay are there any numbers or lettters or words after your tax code of 543L i.e. like
543L M1/W1 or non or 1 or anything at all

does your payslip say your total pay to date?

    similarly for your September pay
    any letter/numbers after 603L

what does your payslip say is your total pay to date
what does it say is your total tax to date
do you pay any deductions like pension?

As at 20/9/08 you were on 603L week 1 basis emergency tax code. You have completed a P46 and this will have been sent to the tax office who will issue your correct code along with details of your previous pay and tax. When these details are received by your employer any tax adjustments will be made in your pay.
Without knowing the gross that goes with your last net pay there is no way of telling if your tax has been sorted out yet.
Also cannot tell you how much tax you should have paid so far without the details from your P45.
As far as the "£60 rebate" is concerned your tax for 20/9/08 was about £9.25 less than it would have been if the code had not changed and this lower tax will continue for your future payments. Because you are on emergency tax you have not had this tax change backdated to the beginning of the tax year; this will happen when your employer receives your correct code along with details of previous pay and tax.
If you have not had the adjustment in your last pay you could ring the tax office, it may speed it up, who knows.
  • as of todays payslip my tax code is now 603L W1

    any help?

603L W1 is an emergency code and explains why you have paid too much tax

phone the HMRC and explain you are on this code and can they update it.

That is the 603L week 1 basis emergency tax code that I refered to in my reply. This means that your tax is not sorted out yet, as I said you could try ringing the tax office to see if you can speed it up.

OK so its still not sorted and am still not getting paid the correct amount I should be.
I started work in April, this is ridiculous.

    first they lose my p45
then i'm getting taxed to all heck.
its hard to survive on the amount I'm getting paid currently!

is there nothing else I can do?
they have a p46 at HR from me.

but my tax code has changed 3 times in my last 3 payslips!!
