disabled persons railcard - special offers

If you hold a disabled person's railcard, check out the speccial offers on the website

http://www.disabledpersons-railcard.co.uk/special-offers

The Tio Pepe card looks like good value if you like eating out - it gives half price deals or 2-4-1 deals in local restaurants and is not limited to a particular chain. Holders of the DP railcard can get the Tio Pepe card for the discounted price of £4.99, which you'd get back on your first meal.

And, as I pointed out on the original thread, you don't have to be in receipt of benefits to get a Disabled Person's Railcard.

Do you qualify? Scroll down the page to check: AFAICS the main exceptions to being on benefits are if you have a hearing or sight impairment, have poorly controlled epilepsy, or can't drive because of epilepsy.

Seeing those offers tempts me to get a railcard ...

  • not too sure if this is the right place to put this, but I know my local council (Pembs) will give any disabled rail card owner living in the area half the cost of the card back. May offer this in other areas too.
  • Mine too (P'boro) and free bus travel if you have DLA (high rate). BUT they are going to start charging Blue Badge holders to park..

Depending on the rail company you might not need a railcard. I travel on Southern and they automatically give me a 50% discount because I stay in my wheelchair/mobility scooter. Other companies are less generous: SouthWest only give the discount for wheelchairs. My argument is that if I used my wheelchair my kids would have to push it - is that fair on an 11 year old?

I have had a disabled railcard for almost 12 months and have never noticed the bite card on their website.

I have just ordered one as I travel by train to my sisters and would buy a hot drink before getting on the train then another when I have to change trains and the same coming back and as we all know the cafes on the train stations are not the cheapest but I need to keep as warm as I can while traveling this will help alot.

    Many thanks

the BITE card is a freebie available to anyone.

That's true - I've got a disabled persons' railcard but got the Bite card through seeing a Freebies post on MSE! Having said that, it's definitely worth getting as you get 20% off your whole order - could be very worth while if you're travelling with family.
