VISTA Is it easy to get used to?

I need to buy a laptop but they all seem to have Vista now. I am used to XP. I realise I can probably find a laptop with XP but like to think I am keeping up with things and it is possible there are advantages with Vista. Any thoughts please?

Yes I am using it now, you need a fairly good spec pc for gaming on it and reasonably amount of ram 2gb

I am using Vista 64 Ultimate everything runs fine on it I haven't had any issues with 32bit programs

I bought a new laptop with Vista and had the same concerns. I'm no techie and this suits me just fine. I find it much easier than XP as it has lots of friendly features that explain themselves.

Hi again. Untill recently I had a PC which ran XP. Less than three montha ago, I invested in a laptop which has Vista Ultimate and I have become used to it now. Both my son and daughter have Vista and they seem well satisfied. I suppose it's like everything else, we don't like change. Why change anything that we're comfortable with?, but if needs must, then lets get on with it. After the initial run of folk calling Vista everything, maybe justified, it seems to have recovered now and less people have isssues, in my opinion.

I'm sure Dell will supply a laptop with XP if you go there.

It's taken me a while to get used to.
Ideally I'd put XP on it, because Vista takes soo much of your system resources, theres little left.

It depends on what's there to start with. Newer PCs usually have plenty of RAM instead because they're certain to be running Vista, and RAM's cheap as chips (literally!) these days anyway...

To the OP; Vista's not that different to XP in the way it works from the user's perspective. I'd just go for it...

Yes definitely... not all that different from xp from a user perspective, a lot of improvements deeper inside re (for instance) stability and security.

    Worth going for, IMHO.

I run XP at home and have switched to Vista in the office (with 2 Gb RAM). Yes it is quite different to start with, but after a month I'm now feeling comfortable with it and it has not presented any problems. And to be fair, it does look very swish!
  • I'm sure if you managed the transition from velco to shoelaces without too much hassle, then you'll cope with XP > Vista.
