Cancellation charges

We moved into a rented property in June and stayed with Southern Electric who supply both gas and electric on their standard tariff. I was going to set up direct debits but they wanted too much so chose to wait for the first bills and was proved right. Last night I applied for their online tariff which gives a discount for direct debits plus what I already get for online billing. I have 7 days to cancel. What is putting me off is that in the small print it said that if I cancel before July 2009 I will be liable for £50 cancellation charges for each fuel they supply.

We have been considering moving to another area in the next year and anyway as private tenants there is no guarantee that our tenancy will be renewed. If we moved would this be likely to count as cancellation?
