Cheap Insurance for a new driver

Anyone know of any insurance companies that insure new drivers?
Here's a brief summary - driver is 23 only 6 months since passed their test and the car is only worth £300. Done a check on confused etc and the cheapest quote for 3rd party only was nearly £600:eek: twice the value of the car.
Has anyone found insurance for new, inexperienced drivers cheaper elsewhere.
Any help,tips appreciated

Third party insurance is to pay third parties if they are killed, injured or their vehicle is damaged.
This could be millions of pounds if someone is prevented from working for a lifetime, so it bears no resemblance to the value of the car (and the car has not cover anyway on third party only).
I would suggest
1) reading martins articles
2) using comparison sites
3) possibly considering some extra training e.g. pass plus
4) loooing at quidco for cashback (which isn't guaranteed)
5) check 3rd party fire and theft AND fully comp also. It isn't necessarily the case that TPO is cheaper, in fact it can limit your choice. My car is worth a few hundred quid but I have fully comp as it was the cheapest option with quidco cashback (£150 but £75 cashback). This was with "sheilas wheels" which won't help your driver if they are male.
But at the end of the day you will find there is a premium for youth and experience (and being male if that applies) and there is no way round it if you want to drive.0 -

I have read Martins articles fully, and as you will know from my post I have used comparison sites and looked into 3rd party fire and theft options.
I know what you say about recklessness of youth and I understand this but all I was after really was anywhere that we could try to find a reasonable quote for insurance.0 -
Have you tried quinn direct?0

No, but will give them a try. Does'nt look hopeful anywhere maybe they will have to wait until they have a bit more experience and get a bit older before they get a car of their own.0

Hi,
This article suggests Swinton and Endsleigh for young drivers..

Thought it may be helpful for you.

Try a quote for Comprehensive as this is often cheaper than Third Party as most companies do not offer third party or price themselves out of the market for third party as its not the type of business they are after.
In addition if you get a quote for comprehensive cover try opting for a largish excess as with most companies you only pay the excess if you are claiming for the repairs on your own car. As the value of your car is £300 I can't see that you would want to claim for your own repairs. So if you hit another car and they claim off your insurance and you do not claim for your car you pay no excess. This will probably bring the premium down a bit.
I personally would not recommend Quinn Direct0 -
Try adding a named female driver to the policy my daughters boyfriend just addded her to his policy and saved £1500
