hi,
we are in the process of waiting to send back this model of dvd recorder because of a fault. well at least we believe it is faulty and that we have not missed anything.
so is there anyone out there that knows enough about this model or at least dvd recorders that can tell me whether it is faulty or not, based on the forthcoming description of the problem?
1. after having it all connected up properly we turned it on useing the remote control.
2. a blue screen with the lettering 'sony dvd recorder then came on.
3. it said please wait and checked for a disc.
4. it then said no disc as we would expect.
5. this is were the problems start. after that the blue screen with the lettering went off and we got a fuzzy snowy like screen with wavy lines. it had not turned of by itself though.
6. according to the instructions the first thing we do is press set up to bring that menu up.
7. we did this, nothing happened. we still just had the snowy screen.
8. none of the other menus for setting the various functions would come on either.
so is it faulty? or have we missed something?
they are coming to take it away tomorrow and replace it with another one. we dont want to find that it is us who have missed something and end up with the same problem.

Have you put a dvd in?0

well yeah, we tried a dvd and it played ok. even then though no menus for setting things like sound would come on. the main part of the problem is no menus will come on. also i dont think that the blue screen with the lettering should change to a fuzzy screen at all, but especially all by itself. our current dvd player as i expect with all dvd players and recorders has a blue screen with lettering that is always on apart from when a dvd is being watched of course.0

Certainly agree with you about the fuzzy stuff. However some DVDs don't have menus so that facility would not work and you usually get a sign in the form of a hand. Perhaps you could try a couple of dvds just to discount this. Albeit that will not solve your fuzzyness.0

it occurred to me after i logged off that the fuzzyness wasnt actually a problem. i was thinking in dvd player mode and forgot that it is now more like a vhs recorder in that whatever channel was last on will automatically come on after it has searched for a disc. so the actual problem was simply no menu would come on so i wasnt able to start the tuning process or anything else.
well the replacement came today and works fine so far. i well i havent tried all the functions yet. the menus come on ok and it is now tuned in so the fuzzyness has gone. all the other menus for setting sound etc work fine. so the previous one was faulty and it wasnt me missing something thank god.0
