How long des a Critical Illness Claim take?

  • Please keep faith that you will get the right outcome. I had a similar situation where L&G declined my CI claim (for cancer) 2 1/2 years ago due to non disclosure on my original application for illnesses not related to the claim. I complained to L&G who still declined my claim so I complained to the Financial ombudsman. As I was able to prove that the non-disclosure was inadvertant (and insurance companies are now required to pay out in these circumstances), I have recently recieved a pay out on the claim (albe-it reduced to take account of the increased premiums I would have paid had they been aware of the illnesses in the first place).

Of course it depends on why your claim has been declined but there are ways of challenging their decisions and achieving u-turns.

    Good luck

Thank you for all your replies. Had time to digest the information sent in the rejection letter, and we feel there is definetly still hope. They have said that would look again if position changes, but it would seem the consultants letter inferred that all was expected to be ok for the next couple of years - we sincerely hope so, but L&G have taken this as their main reason for rejection at this time. You see he will need a Bone Marrow Transplant and has a match - and this is definetly covered, its just that he doesn't need it right away. Personally, I can't see how that changes things. I will be letting them know of our intentions but am sure this will end up with the ombudsman anyway. We are not going to get angry and worked up about this, as we don't have the stamina, we will have a calm and wait and see approach. It just seems like the "big guys" always win, and we have to fight so hard to get something that we thought would have been covered.

Jeremy - so glad you got what your entitled to in the end, and I sincerely hope that you are keeping well now. Im sure it was the last thing you needed to do when going through such a terrible illness.

Will keep you informed, and thanks very much

Really sorry to hear that mysmeg. Very tough for you to receive that news. Have you thought about trying your financial advisor again, maybe the message didn't get to her or somehow she got sidetracked. Do hope things start to look up for you soon.
I'm currently awaiting a claim decision so I have an idea of what it's like.........
