The point was that you were haranging anyone for HAVING to have a lodger and I was stating they may not NEED one but there were plus points to it.0

I lived in Neil Street, Covent Garden in 2002 and from that experience I would never, ever live that centrally again. I'm in Notting Hill right now which is bad enough but needs must.
.
I live in WC1, and love it, does London really exist outside z1?...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

No, you're arguing for the sake of it.
If one wishes to take a lodger because they're sad and would like company then I'm all for it. But you didn't start with that argument did you? You said one could save money, make a property financially viable by taking on a lodger.
My point was that if you are taking on a lodger for financial reasons then you have made a bad financial decision and now you're trying to squirm out of it by talking nonsense about being lonely.
You said, and I quote:And a lodger in a spare room can help enormously towards bills.
My response wasIn a one bed flat? Would be cosy I suppose and save on heating bills.
Then you said:I dont think anyone mentioned the size of the flat - you were just saying how much it costs to live in London.
I responded,if you're in a situation where you have to rent out part of your house to a stranger then you made a bad bad bad financial decision somewhere down the line.
Next, we have you switching tack and moving the goalposts talking about being lonely and needing company....:hunter, you may not NEED to rent a room, but many people enjoy the company and the shared costs leave them able to spend more on the entertainment you mentioned.
When you're discussing an issue on the web, you need to remember that people can read back over what you've written. You can't pretend you didn't say something
We can all see it...
Anyway, it's getting boring, you seem to have an issue, some reason you like disagreeing with me, so be it, I'm happy for you to do so.0 -

I suppose it was fun for a while but, now, no, I can't take it anymore. I don't remember exactly what our rent was, around £4k a month, I imagine it's likely to be nearer £8k-£10k now, I just couldn't justify that kind of money anymore.
In fact, amazing I just checked Rightmove for my old postcode, here you go, almost identical to what I was living in on Neal Street:

2k pw so around £8kpm. That's an awful lot and for the same price you can get so much more outside of London or at least further out.0 -

£8,000 a month? Now that IS a huge amount to get a rather nice roof over your head.
Even my rudimentary maths makes that just under 100k for a years tenancy. Just imagine the size of the deposit that could be saved if the tenant settled for a rental at around £2000 a month instead.
Ok, you'd probably have to commute a little further than is ideal, but for the sake of a year, I think I'd suffer it.0 -

I prefer Stokey myself. Much more vibey and more coffee shop choices without the generic chains (very important to me!
)
And, more importantly, cheaper!
A friend of mine is trying to buy at the moment around the £650k mark (I can't even imagine..) in Canonbury, but she keeps getting gazumped! So properties seem to be selling at a certain price point. I think she should just move out to Hackney where she'd be able to buy a whole house!0 -

Central London is great for endless small, independent sandwich shops and cafes. Take a wander round Lambs Conduit Street, or Red Lion Street, or Judd Street, in Bloomsbury....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

Lovely though that place is, you can rent in Bloomsbury for a lot less, and live in such a geometic place!
