CCCS token payments

Im just completing my 'notification of a DMP letter' to send to all my creditors as requested by CCCS. They mention to send a token payment as well. Am I ok sending this in the form of a cheque from my new account? Or does it after be a postal order? Can they take my account details from it and use them I suppose I am also wondering?? Just would prefer to be cheques as quicker no extra charges and can see when cashed it.

TIA
MOM

I sent all my token payments by cheque (although they were from my mum's ac as I don't have a cheque book).

They can't do anything with your account details without your consent. If they, for example, wanted to set up a dd using your details, they would need consent plus they would have to give you 30 days notice.

    Hope that helps

    Hi

I wouldn't send a cheque to any creditor, I'd use postal order's, yes I know it's more expensive, but I wouldn't trust a DCA under any circumstances.

What the law says they can do, and what they actually do are two very different things.

Why give them information when they don't need it, i.e. Sort code / account details on your cheque?

Yep, I sent mine by PO as well but mainly because my bank was one of my creditors and may have frozen the account before the cheques were presented !

As tp6 says, creditors seem to do what they want and once they have your bank account details...who knows what they will do?

    CCCS recommend PO's anyway.

    Hiya,

It sounds like you should ignore my advice and stick with POs! I can't guarantee that I wasn't just lucky so better to be safe I guess.

    Sorry to confuse!

In theory, yes. But never trust a DCA.

There have been instances, my ex OH for one, where a DCA helped themselves to money from his account without his consent because they had his account details. DCA's don't care about the law.

Also its the fact that you have to sign your cheques thats the issue, they then have a copy of your signature and thats obviously not advisable. If you need to request a cca and they don't have the original who knows what they could do when they have a fresh signature to work with.
