Lost My Job

  • So sorry to hear about your situation. Losing a job is not nice at any time of year, but losing it near to Christmas does seem to compound things.

What I would do in your situation is cut out all adults and explain to them that under the circumstances, you are not buying pressies for adults this year.

You don't say how old your kids are but I know from experience that the younger they are the less inclined they are to worry about how much things have cost so I would be looking at all the 3 for 2 offers that there are around such as Boots, Woolworths, Matalan etc. And don't forget to checkout Ebay.

Good luck with finding a new job and I hope you are able to have a fab Christmas all the same.

Ahem.....no-one has suggested us on the Old Style Board yet!!!!!!!

We know a thing or two over on the Old Style Board re making one penny do the work of two - or even fifteen! So - for anything to do with food and general household shopping - we're the people - someone is sure to know whats what and be able to help you out re budgeting for food/etc expenses. Pop over - we're a friendly bunch.:D

Not sure I can really offer all that much advice, didnt want to read and run however.

One thing I would say is I have found the OS board great. Lots of hints and tips on there.

Sorry to hear about your job, fingers crossed you wont be un-employed for long!

:p they have, actually, Christmas CAN be done with a bottle of stardrops, some white vinegar and some old bedsheets.;)

I suggest you get yourself round to the job centre and let them know you're available, there are also many job websites online, get your CV made up and printed off on nice paper and hand it in to a few companies you would like to work for. Being keen and professional is the best way to get in for an interview, and use your time off work to practise your interview techniques.

  • Are you able to claim JSA contribution based whilst you look for another job?

  • You could make a scrapbook for your parents?

What I do if i'm short of cash or even stuck for a present is get a sheet of A4 card and select some nice photos, sometimes I do it for an event such as a birthday or graduation so photos relating to that. Then arrange them nicely on the card, (if you're happy to chop some up that can make it look bit more arty) and stick them down. Then you can print onto card a caption for the photos and stick it on. Maybe get a cheap frame for it from the poundshop?

Or you could do an actual book. You can get small book and do a few pages of different events.

A very personal present and cheap!
