Ask the Chancellor a question on the banking crisis

This is what I've asked ...
The banking crisis has been fuelled by uncertainty and the unwillingness of banks to disclose their true financial position, leading in turn to an unwillingness to lend to each other. Can we now see, as part of a major revision to banking regulation, a legal requirement for banks and other financial institutions to publicly disclose on a weekly basis, the state of their balance sheets and the extent of their exposure to high risk deals?

Well, I've just read the Guardian's transcript of the meeting. What a whitewash! The questions were obviously cherry picked and bundled up (like the disguised bad debts of US mortgage lenders!) and passed off nicely nicely, thank you.
I despair of this government and the so called opposition. They're not really looking to change anything. They are too afraid to really challenge the creators of this fiasco.
They just !!!!!footed around the fringes of the real issue. Not one of the questions was
to do with getting rid of a monitory system based on debt.
It's a laugh. The greatest brains in the country - I think not! There are far more intelligent/sophisticated and worthy individuals on this site and on the Motley Fool than the blowhards in Westminster!
Martin, please go in to politics. Create a new party and take the cream of the talent from this site and really make a difference on the scale that matters.0 -
A very significant distraction - the US election - the history that may be made...
The coverage of the banking crisis - swamped! Funny how something always pops up or the schedule for this meeting was set on the eve of US 08.
People like to talk about anything rather than money/economy - so it's going to be hard enough to get it on the news. Also, the TV companies bankers/backers probably don't want it discussed too deeply either. The bankers are completely complacent - they know how difficult it is to get the ' informed' to mobilise against them, let alone the masses. No fear of anyone rocking the boat -'there simply isn't the time, the news'll be on in a minute....' We really are apathetic.
So, what started as a chance for us to ask hard hitting questions - make those in charge accountable - no chance - look at the smirk on Darling's face: 'o, am I not clever...I can look sombre and sincere & these idiots can't really touch me..'
Grilling my !!!!! They were let off lightly. Let me at them.....grrrrr0 -
Dear Sirs (they're all men!)
In the hope you may see this email, I really believe you did not ask
the questions that should have
been asked.
When is the BoE going to stop profiteering from debt ridden printing
of money & stop paying the Crown
it's dividend?
Same for the Federal Reserve & the rich people behind it
When is the government really going to encourage/enforce a fairer
redistribution of the wealth?
(These bankers are not clever, I've met lots, they just have money as
the be-all..)
When is change really going to come? Tax the rich out of the country
or even out of existence - they'll
be grateful really when they get back to living in a safer/fairer
world - it'll stop them stressing & getting
violent when they feel as though they are not going to be able to buy
the biggest yaught this season.
They may even start loving their families and communities they've
isolated themselves from.
Sod the jobs the large banks create - they only account for 3% of the
job market. - people will get new ones.
People are like grass eg no matter how much the communists concreted
their stadiums, soft grass has
burst through it's stifling & outlived it and conquered. Same goes for
people. Tax the corporations out of existence.
Allow cottage industries to flourish by freeing up ideas and allow the
country to produce its own energy - again
from nature.
Put the bankers that caused this mess into prison or community service
- let them see the society they've
protected themselves from. Don't give them handouts from my money. I
pay my taxes for you (the government)
to look after my interests & society, not squander it & give it away
to villians who smile broadly at you
& have ensnared you with their belief that they are soooo important.
They are not! Wake up!
I expect a reply, please.

You are so right, they think they are flame-proof and that the current situation is just a blip that people will soon forget.
Any takers on how long it takes them to weasel their way to covertly once again getting fat perks and the likes.0 -
I am going to shut down my bank accounts and open one new one with the Coop - unless there is another bank out there that is ethical - anyone, any ideas?
It's a small protest, but if a lot of us were to do this, then they may start to get the message...0
