I got a Digilogic freeview box from Tesco a few months ago for just under £30.
My question is because it is a bog standard freeview box and does not have a slot for top up tv, can I get top up tv. Also does anyone know of any offers for top up tv so that I can ascertain if I want it before signing up to a 12 month contract.
Many thanks

You need a box with a slot for top up TV. Cheapest £40 odd.
You don't have to sign up for 12 months.
Their range of channels seem to be very poor for the £7.99 a month.
UK Gold is the only good one as far as I can see.

I've been keeping an eye on TopUp Tv as they've been boasting about their new package (I assume to compete with Sky) called TopUp TV Anywhere.
However, I checked their site today (didn't receive an email update even though I "registered my interest"). I don't think it's a good deal at all!
The deal is you pay £9.99 per month instead of £7.99 currently. However, you must also pay £75 (if you were a customer before April 06 - £200 for new customers).
So this works out at £16.24 for your first year.
For this you get a "selection of hand-picked" programmes from various channels along the lines of what you get currently (UK Gold, UK Style, plus Hallmark and Paramount among others). But it's really one channel containing these programmes that are saved for you to then view at any time.
So you pay £16 per month to get what they want you to watch.
Think I'll definitely be looking towards Sky soon...Everybody dies, but not everyone truly lives0 -
Bought a Ferguson topuptv box at Currys Digital yesterday morning on a "Clearance Special". You don't get a connection pack with them any more, nor do the shop stock them, you have to go online to register and be sent your top-up card.
However, on logging on, I found that some of the channels listed on the packaging are no longer available (UKTVFood, Bloomberg, Toonami, and others) as of September. My wife specifically wanted UKTVFood and I wanted UKGold, so one of us had already lost out.
Radioandtelly.co.uk state that "Despite being told by Top Up TV that the existing service will end on 25th February 2007, we've now been told by Top Up TV that a non-Anytime service WILL continue. Subscriptions will remain the same (£7.99), but the content will be reduced (some channels removed, some with shorter hours)." So you could lose even more than already listed.
On top of this, in order to receive the new "TopupTV Anytime" offering, you will need (surprise, surprise) a new settop box costing - get this - £180 for new customers plus £29.99 connection pack!! So £210 just to get UKTVFood!!
Guess I'll have to save up for Sky - topuptv looks like a complete con.
Took the box back to Currys and got a refund.0 -
Get yourself a decent DVD/HDD recorder, record the nice programs that you'd otherwise miss and watch them whenever it is convenient. I do this and I have more hours to watch than I can actually afford to spare (Robin Hood, Gadget show, Top gear, Planet earth, Movies, Documentaries ......etc.) Why restrict yourself to a strict schedule when you can watch your favorite programs whenever you fancy.
P.S I doubt that your wife could catch up with all the cooking programs on all the different channels on TV just now!!!Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????0
