Hi,
Having a 37" Sony plasma TV delivered tomorrow and we have been told to upgrade on our scart leads and aerial leads. The monster leads have been recommended but they are way out of our price range. Can anyone recommend some good quality leads and connections which are not the cheapest you can find but more affordable.
We need to connect Sky,DVD cinema surround, video recorder and a PS2.
Luckily the Tv has 3 scart sockets and RGb sockets.
Any help appreciated
Jenjen

Monster Cables are actually fantastic - and a good buy. I have spent around £350 on my various setups - well worth it.
Remember the best signal your going to get is only going to be as good as the entire setup weak-point! So its imperative to make it pretty good where it matters the most.
However - most places are priced quite highly, and prices are pretty consistent across retailers. The best place is ebay !! Some fantastic Monster cable bargains are there and will complement any decent home av setup perfectly....
What are the model numbers for the plasma and surround sound system?
What (detail & list all) connections do they both have?
Is your satellite setup SKY or SKY+ ?
RGB does not mean component by the way - dont get them confused with each other.
Component is superior and carries the image portiopn only (not audio - but thats where your surround sound comes in assuming you have the connections!).
Its pretty easy once you know what your working with.....let us know more!0 -

Does it actually have RGB component sockets?
Or RGB enabled Scart sockets? All three?
Have a look on EBay for Ixos or Profigold sellers for everything bar the PS2 cable.0 -
Hi,
Im back had to take the dog for a walk.:snow_grin
Ok the Model number for the TV is KE-P37M1 by sony.
It has 3 scart sockets and I can't remember how many other connections but we were told to get a new component lead from e-bay for the PS2 to get a good picture.
We have Sky.
Our cinema surround is Panasonic SA- HT75
We have been told that IXOS is a good make.
Going to go out at 4.00pm to have a look and see what we can get so any help before then will be great.
Thanks all

For goodness sake don't waste your money on overpriced Scart leads, they will not improve the performance of your system.
Get gold plated scart leads but don't spend more that £ 5.00 a lead.
The important thing about aerial leads is that the connections are sound and they are not loose. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Now I am well and truely confused everywhere we went when looking for a Tv we were told to upgrade on the Scart leads and aerial to get the best picture from the Plasma.

Sheel is right, I have a theory that if they cannot sell you an extended warranty they make up the commission with overpriced scart leads.
I would suggest using what you already have but if they are a bit grotty get some from Tescos, they will always take them back if you are not happy with your picture. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
We got a five year warranty free with it, so I don't think it's a case of that. I think we will wait and see what picture we get on it and borrow a friends monster scart lead to see if there is any difference.penrhyn wrote:Sheel is right, I have a theory that if they cannot sell you an extended warranty they make up the commission with overpriced scart leads.

... and there's the rub. It matters not a jot how good the cables are if you cannot perceive the difference in the picture. Caveat Viewor (?)
Richersounds used to lend cables for audio. I don't know if they still do it or whether they include video leads too.0 -
It always stuns me to think just how many people get this totally wrong.
Yes - If you can not see a difference - then dont buy extra cables. Chances are your not using the equipment to its fullest potential anyhow if thats the case.
To do it properly, doing what the AV online forums or leading magazines (independant of retailers) suggest is fantastic - budget around 10-15% of the total cost of all of your equipment and use that figure as a rough value to what you should spend on getting decent professional interconnects.
Your only going to do this once - so get it right and maximise it to its potential otherwise, the money you spent on the equipment is frankly, a bit of a waste if your not getting the performance. Remember you've probably just spent thousands on the latest flat screen...
For example: Using decent speaker cable (meaning: replacing the freebie stuff they give you) on an all in one dvd/home cinema kit will make a 1significant difference to even the humble occasional home user. The difference is for example, being able to hear tiny bits of glass falling around you when watching a film with an explosion in it....its almost magical and certainly an ear opener. Manufacturers only give you basic cabling but pitch it has the whole solution to entice you to buy their products - rarely is this adequate.
70% of home setups have got it really horribly wrong from what I have seen to date. I used to be an electronics engineer and I'm a bit of a AV enthusiast which is why I notice and appreciate the differences achieved.
If people disagree here, or wish to flame - so be it, just trying to help!0
