Lost Tesco receipt

Not sure if this is the correct forum for this but I can't find anything more appropriate.

I am having problems with a Digilogic freeview box that was bought from Tesco a couple of months ago. Apparently newer versions of the box do not exhibit the problems so I want to take it back and get a replacement.

The problem is I seem to have lost the receipt. The Tesco electrical help line suggested that the store may be able to trace the purchase from my Clubcard records.

Has anyone managed to get a replacement from Tesco without a receipt, and perhaps with the help of their Clubcard record?

I've had a replacement without a reciept before now. If you paid by credit card take your statement with you - always helps
    I haven't got one!

yes, i've also had a replacement for this item.
Providing you take it back in the box you should be ok.
Tell them of the problems (like it getting stuck, and not being able to be switched on/ off) and that you simply require a replacement of the newer model.
It's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.

Tesco keep records of all your purchases and can print out the receipt for all you bought that day.

quite scarey as we took back a faulty telephone without a receipt - they just asked for the Clubcard and the approximate date of purchase and within seconds he had a copy of the receipt.

Failing that, go buy another one... Go back a day later (with the broken one) tell em it doesnt work and you want your money back. Have done this with Argos a few times with duff stuff that Ive lost the receipt for, or people have bought as a gift.

Over a year ago, I purchased a Tiger Woods game from Asda, which was later reissued by EA as it had an error affecting every game. Unfortunately for me, as it had worked when I put it in my console, I destroyed the receipt.

I had to refer back to my card statement, and also contacted head office to ask them if I would be able to swap it for the reissued version.

I know Sainsbury's also have the ability to track back through transactions, they can do it going back weeks, maybe months.

As an aside, the above post by wacko911 - your avatar must surely be pushing the rules of the site and I have emailed those at the top for them to decide.

With it being a Freeview box, did they not take the details to send to the gestap^H^H^H^H^H^HTV Licensing Authorities? Or is that only for TV sets?

legally, if your box is faulty it is your statutory right to have a refund. NO arguments - a receipt is not needed.

Incidentally, if you know the exact date of purchase and it is within the last 12 weeks then Tesco can trace it on their system and produce a duplicate receipt, they simply have to run a search on your clubcard number in the store that you purchased it from.

you are correct, they take those details so they should be able to trace it by their copy.

The law does not require a receipt but 'proof of purchase' this is not necessarily a receipt but could be credit card, bank statement or in an extreme case a witness who was with you when you purchased the box. If the box is less than 6 months old then it may be :xmassign: deemed to have been faulty at time of purchase unless Tesco can prove otherwise. You may be entitled to a full/partial refund, replacement or a repair.

So, if less than 6 months old - proof of purchase! Doesn't necessarily mean a receipt.

I had a poroblem like this with a proptable tv with inbuilt dvd player. It just stopped working after about 6 months.

I had lost my receipt and was told as it was purchased over 3 months ago they could not trace it. I had paid by cash at the time so was completely stuck.

I did tell the manager that considering curry's were able to check back 10 years for me and provide receipts for all purchases I had made in the last 10 years with just my postcode I considered 3 months wasn't very long.

The problem with purchasing such items from Tesco, in my opinion, is that they just supply a normal till receipt as a guarantee and, if you are anything like me, you end up with loads of these type of receipts so they are very easily lost.

On one hand you could say this is how they manage to save you some cost but for the few pounds they save you I would far rather have the aftersales and will not be buying such items from Tesco again.
