How do I stop my cat scratching the carpet?

Get a scratching post and a bottle of catnip spray, spray the post with the catnip, and puss will go bonkers for the post. My two go nuts for the stuff.0

Our two scratch at the bedroom door to get in every morning at about 5.30. The only way to stop them reaching this door would be to shut them in the kitchen (or another bedroom) and I really don't want to do that.
O/H is running out of tolerance though... any suggestions?
(Letting them sleep with us is not an option while their favourite thing is fighting and scratching)My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
My problem is at night when we are in bed and she wants some fuss she will scratch my bedroom furniture, this is even with a scratchpost next to our bed0
