love film dvd rental trial

I recently bought something from CD Wow and after I paid and started browsing again there was an offer at the top of the page for 30 days free trial of their new DVD rental service.
My son was with me and pointed out that this trial was free so why didn't we give it a go, so we signed up and chose out first DVDs. However, the welcome e mail I got from them (actually Lovefilm) just thanked me for signing onto their membership scheme and didn't mention anything at all about a free trial, they also sent me an £8.99 voucher for signing up.
I e mailed straight away asking them to confirm that I am only on a free trial and now, 2 days later I have an email from them saying that 'Lovefilm' do not offer free trials and haven't done so since the end of October. However they do go on to say that if I send them the link I used to sign up they will investigate the matter further. Of course, I am unable to send them the link as as soon as I clicked on it to accept the free trial it disappeared.
It's all very confusing especially as the welcome email confirmed that my first months rental was taken on the 25th November (the day after I signed up) but according to my bank there is nothing at all in the system from Lovefilm, my payment status online has also been changed to show next payment now due on 25th December. I have put a stop on my bank account in case they try to take anything before the matter is cleared up or before they accept my cancellation. I have also asked that they cancel my membership before sending any DVDs if I am to be charged for my free month, also, just in case I haven't used the £8.99 voucher so that can be deleted if they wish.
I did a search on here for Lovefilm to see if anyone has had anything to say previously, but nothing showed up. Has anyone had any experience of them at all?

This probably isn't much use to you, but it might set your mind at rest a little ......
I've had a free trial with LoveFilm and have found them to be very good. They don't seem the sort of firm who are trying a scam from day one - I think their service is good enough for them to get enough customers without having to rip people off.
If you haven't paid any money yet (according to your bank), and don't seem to be owing anything until Christmas, it looks like you've been given a free month. Why not enjoy the films during that time and cancel half way through December, if you don't want to continue.

They've now taken £14.99 from my bank so I am less than impressed. When they do respond they just insist that they have not offered any free trials for some time, yet I have already sent them two current links for free trials still availble on the internet in their name!
They don't even bother responding now.

I have just started a free trial with them this week, 45 days I think.
I'll have to keep an eye on my bank account now! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I had a good result with love film after all. They contradicted themselves in all their emails, falsely claiming they didn't offer any free trials, they never had offered any free trials etc and telling me i was mistaken.
However, I sent them links to all current trials and they admitted they do offer free trials but denied ever offering one through CDWow. Then a few nights ago I bought somehting on CDWow and once again I was offered a free trial!
I took a screen grab and sent it to them and within hours had an apology and a refund of the money they took from me.
