what to do in london...

  • Have you tried South West Train's website and see what the cheapest fare could be? If you book soon enough, you may well qualify for an Apex ticket.

Alternatively, get a cheap day return to Portsmouth and then get megatrain up to London (timings quite restrictive though).

National Express go from Dragon Street to Victoria too I believe, though having a partner who works for the railways, and living a stone's throw from Petersfield Station, not something I've tried! Could also be worth getting a family railcard. The people at the station are quite friendly so you could try asking them what the cheapest they could do is?

As for what to do, there should be a leaflet in the Station of 2 for 1 offers, which you qualify for by getting a rail ticket, some very good offers for all the sites there. Otherwise, many museums are free, Science Museum, Natural History, Imperial War etc and all, especially the Science Museum are good for kids.

Alternatively, BA are doing free ice skating in Kew Gardens at the moment - see the freebies forum, worth about £20 each I believe!!

Would only be good if she went from Portsmouth - you can't join the train at Petersfield or else they penalty fare you! The train times aren't that good for anyone wanting a day in London either as the departures are afternoon trains.

It's a good idea that hopefully will do well, just not great for day trippers to London. Shame though..
