Australia Trip - Airport check In query

We have booked our flights to Australia in November, I am clueless as to what to do at the airport. We have e tickets and fly from Manchester to Heathrow then Heathrow to Hong Kong and then on to Melbourne. I know you can book in online but as we have never flown long distance before I am starting to panick now. I would rather check in the old fashioned way. Will there still be a check in desk at Manchester and will we have to keep re claiming our baggage or does it go straight through to Melbourne? I know this may seem a silly question to a lot of people but if someone could guide us through what happens it will put my mind at rest.

Who are you flying with?
If it's BA/Qantas your bags will be checked through. Again if its with BA then you probably haven't prebooked seats and therefore I would advise you to check in at home 24 hours before departure as this will enable you to get the best possible choice of seats rather than waiting til you get to the airport when there probably won't be much choice left0 -
You need to go to Terminal 3 on arrival at MAN.
Or park in Terminal 3's carpark.
BMI is on the 1st floor.
There are 7 'self service' check in's (E Cards)
You don't even have to speak to anyone just go to the 'Self service' check in's with your (E Cards)
Follow the menu on screen.
Takes about 6 minutes.
Then proceed to Passport Control etc.
You can check in the night before if you wish.
Keep an eye on the screens, As flights are not called.

We booked through Opodo and our flight from manchester is a BA flight but the remainder are flying with Cathay Pacific, I have pre booked the seats though Opodo and had confirmation from them.becominganobsessivesaver wrote: »Who are you flying with?

.....
The whole e-ticket thing really isn't that much different for the traveller from the old paper ticket system when it comes to checking in at the airport and don't forget, you aren't obliged to check in online, (a lot of folk don't), so if you want, just take your passport and paperwork to the check in desk as if it was a paper ticket and you will notice no difference at all.
The advantage of checking in online is the ability to select your own seat, and if the airport has a genuine baggage drop, the desk you you go to is a baggage drop desk rather than a check in desk, which really is a case of 6 and two threes.
Then again, the better seats are held for FF's, and released on the day, so you may well get a better seat by checking in at the airport.
......
As for luggage, if your ticket is right through to Oz, then your baggage will be checked right through.
The main advantage of etickets is their flexibility, ease of change and the fact that you can cut it finer arriving at the airport, but at the end of the day, either way, you still have to turn up at the airport, present yourself at the desk with your passport and paperwork, check in your luggage, get through security and go.
