ive been left some shares dont know what to do

can any one help me with this ,ive been left some shares in my uncles will and i have been told that to put them into my name i need to contact the share holders and send them £35.00 to transfer them into my name is this right?

    Yes, basically. Do you have physical share certificates, or are they "electronic" shares held with a trading company (these are called nominee accounts)?

    If they are physical certificates you will need to write to the registrar for that company. Send them the physical certificates and a copy of the probate order (the executor of your Uncle's will/estate will have this), and a letter explaining what you need them to do ie: transfer them into your name.

    If they are held in a nominee account you will need to contact the broker and ask them what the procedure is. You will probably have to provide a death certificate and a copy of the probate order to gain access to the nominee account, then you'll need to contact the registrar to get the shares transferred into your name.

    The solicitor handling the will/probate should hopefully help you do all this though.
