PetrolBusters Closing Down

Just got an email from the AA this morning saying;
Announcing the closure of AA Petrolbusters
> Dear Petrolbusters user,
> You are receiving this email because you are a registered user of the AA Petrolbusters service.
> We have been running Petrolbusters as a free service on https://www.theAA.com since 2001. Unfortunately, the significant cost of running the service can no longer be justified given the relatively small number of regular users. We have, therefore, decided to stop the Petrolbusters online Service from December 9th this year.
> If your interest is in regional variation and general trends rather than local prices, you will still be able to find monthly fuel price reports on the AA website covering UK prices and an overseas comparison.
> Should you have any queries regarding this service, please do not hesitate to contact us at: editor@theAA.com or 0870 600 0371.
> We do hope that you'll continue to enjoy visiting https://www.theAA.com.
> Kind regards,
> The AA Petrolbusters team
I can't believe it, it has been so useful over the years to know whether petrol is cheaper near work or near home.
PetrolBusters was run as an independent until 2001, when the AA bought it. I would be so happy if it could go back to being independent again. Can someone not be found to save it.

i'm gutted by this too, cos i use it every week, cos petrol prices change quite quick around here. >:(
can nothing be done, can we not all email and beg?0 -
There must be something we can do, perhaps the Money Saving Expert could look at a rescue plan, it would be ideal on this site, it helps you save money afterall.
How about it Martin?0 -
OK in confidence. I heard this news a little while back. I told the AA that i would take it off their hands and guarantee to run it for a year (which is expensive as you have the buy the data off an agency) and even agreed to pay a little for the site itself.
I was given a rebuttle and told they weren't interested in selling it. Of course i hadn't made a firm offer as i would have needed more details. I'm talking to some newspapers at the moment about covering the story - as i think there needs to be public campaign
It's a disgrace. It's symptomatic of the fact the AA has been sold to a venture capital company.
Im also looking at some other websites that do similar things - nothing is close though - though some are useable. And im planning to write and article on what to do.

Thanks Martin, I appreciate your efforts.
In the meantime I have emailed as many people as I can, to get them to register with the site, perhaps an increase in numbers can help the AA change their mind.
I can't see much other regular reason for me to visit their website if Petrolbusters is not their. Petrolbusters is a big pull in to the site for me.0 -
what a major disappointment :-/
have found the petrolbusters site to be invaluable in area - will be really sorry to see it go
The facility for new users to sign-up has been withdrawn with immediate effect.
what a shame that a company that makes so much money is not prepared to give a little back"The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page."
happy travels !!

Typical AA attitude.i joined while in a supermarket carpark with one of them men who stand in the cold/rain all day looking for new members.I felt sorry for him so joined stating the fact that i have a transit van most of the time. They cover them all he said.Months later was driving up the M20 returning home something was wrong with the van (Turbo had gone) so pulled into services phoned the AA gave them the reg,They said is it a transit van.yes i said explaining about when i joined i told the person selling it me i usually always drove transits and he had said i am covered. But it's a tranist 190 (3.5kg gross) and if you want our help you will have to pay £99 for the van cover (just for that van)after a 15 minute argument about what i was sold under false pretences i hung up and drove 150 miles slowly without any turbo......©..®..(TM) NothingVentured.
