TRV top half came adrift

OH thought the rad in our bedroom was very hot, and then discovered that the top half of the thermostatic valve ( the bit that turns) had come adrift, possibly after some work to re-affix the radiator! I have re- attached the top part of the valve to the pipework, but am wondering if that will be sufficient. As far as I could see, there was no evidence of leakage there.

should be no problem at all if its screwed back all the way down.
the top part is purely an actuator with a (i think) wax insert that expands/contracts dependant on temperature. this pushes down on the valve via the little pushrod that sticks proud when the two are seperated. there is no water connection between the two.
it can be useful, once a year, to remove the top part and pushdown on the little pushrod with something like a block of wood to make sure it has not seized in position as often happens. the pushrod should move approx 5mm and is spring return.
hope this helps. Please note, we've had to remove your signature because it was sh*te!0 -
Wot bockster says, except that it depends on the make of valve as to how the thermostatic head is fixed onto the flow control valve. Sometimes it is a little grub screw, tightened with an allen keyAfter the uprising of the 17th June The Secretary of the Writers Union

As to make, the only marking I can see is a little oin or din at the base of the turning piece.0
