  • Hold the key against your head when operating.

It acts like an aerial, saw it on "Top Gear" and it does work.
Just for one moment, thought I'd found my way.
  • On Fords the frequency used can drift over time, making the key less sensitive. There is a way of resynchronising this frequency which can be found here: http://www.mirez.co.uk/KeyProg.htm

I'm not sure if there is a Renault equivalent.

    Cheers,

My Rover remote locking used to have to be held against the window - it wasn't a fault just a short range sensor!

Yep. My 1995 ZX is just as bad - stand by the drivers door, and point at the sensor.
Must be a french thing. :rudolf:
    I know nothing - really!!
  • I think this is a feature of that generation of Renault remotes. We had a 1998 Scenic and you had to be close for it to work it also had a tendancy to lose its blip code and needed to use another key to unlock. Changing the batteries doesn't make any difference although dealer tried this on us a couple of times. It doesn't help you but the remotes on newer models work well from a long distance.

If I am right, older Renaults/Peugeots etc used infra-red remotes. These have to be pointed directly at the reciever near the rear view mirror. They work like your TV remote and the sensors need to be directly in sight of each other. Newer cars have radio keys which work atr longer range and dont have to be "in sight".
