We are moving into a brand new house and it says it has BT sockets, we want to go with sky for TV, phone and broadband I have just phoned BT to see how we go about activating the line and we have to pay £124.99!!! just to activate the line.
Surely it shouldn't cost this much, or is there any way that sky can activate it?

Openreach will need to connect you to the network if this wasnt done when then house was built....Just because there are sockets doesnt mean they can flick a switch and the line would be on...there was an offer on conection not so long ago but dont know if this is still applicable...even if you go through sky it will still need openreach to do the external work.0

The people who maintain and run the telephone network.openreach? who are they?
BT have a £29.99 connection offer at the moment - http://www.serviceview.bt.com/list/public/current/Notice08_boo/FrameworkImpl291574.htm#FrameworkImpl291574Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

Thank you, they have confirmed that it will be £29.99 but the normal bt number i phoned knew nothing about it, she put me through to another department and after googling that number its the direct number for the uk call centre0 -

Note to qualify for the £29.99 offer you must must make at least 30 chargeable or inclusive calls every three month period or 10 chargeable calls or chargeable inclusive calls per month if you are billed monthly. So you would not be able to use Sky Talk (TV and Broadband would be ok).Sky Talk block access to 1280 so you cant place some calls via BT to qualify for the offer.
If you were thinking of moving your line rental to Sky in first 18 months, be aware customers ceasing service during the minimum period of the special offer will be asked to pay, as a single payment, a sum which is equal to the total of the standard line rental charges (currently, £11.75inc. VAT per month) left in the 18 month minimum period.0 -
yea i saw that bit, im sure i can make the calls needed my last phone bill was £128 that was for just one month lol
I realise now we are not going to be able to have sky calls now, but we have to get our line activated so we're going to go with BT.0
