If you do buy a suit from a cheaper shop it might be an idea to remove the sewn in label!

Try moss bros, they have some for £45 on the mix and match section, and also a 15% off code: suits15, so thatd make it £38.25

    Primark,Matalan,M & s outlets,Ebay

OH has some expensive suits and one he bought from Matalan for about £40 ish looks just as good.
He he-since we have been together I have converted him-he wouldn't have even stepped in there before..
  • Ok, so we get the point that u r working for some big flash city firm - and what, for free??? Aren't you getting paid, you know with something called money?

I work in an office (- and luckily more recently work from home where my suits are my pyjamas) - I probably have about 15 suits amassed over 5 years, which I wear in rotation and don't think I have paid more than £80 for a suit.
Half are probably pure wool suits from matalan for about £60/70 normal price (not even in sales) which are top notch (in a sale they are about £30).

A black halfprice Sale job from River island £80, and from Next and M&S etc.

Also wearing a suit depends on how u carry yourself off and how confident you are and what accessories you have eg ties, cuff links, tie pin etc. You could wear £1000 suit and if ur going to be a cowering nervous wreck, it'll look crap. U could wear a £30 and be open and confident and it will cover you perfectly.

You have been given some good advice on here with regards to shops and price guides - and I suggest you get off your backside and get some now.
And as someone else suggested get a top end 'cheap suit' ie the pricier ones that Asda or Tesco do for example the £40 over the £20 and that will tie you over until you can get a decent mid-range mid-price suit.

Also look at Suit shops as you pass them, look at catalogues and expensive Saville Row shops / websites, what colleagues are wearing, what the city is wearing, films, TV and see what colour shirts and ties they are dressing their suits with - and re-create that effect on a bargain by picking up a £5 light blue shirt instead of a £500 one.

As also pointed Primark is a good value outlet which will give you short life clothes but in the latest style and cut as whatever is popular on the high street. Plus their very very good quality silk ties are £4 each - which are appox £20 elsewhere.

If i'm ranting then it's becuase I have been through this - and this wealth of information on here by other colleagues or the High St choice wasn't available back then - and I got through it. My first Suit was from C&A. Other choices was Fosters. Now those were the days.

Probably but the typical scenario goes something like this,
Arrange job to start on 10th of Month.
Move to new city on 5th of month, pay deposit, letting agents fees, first months rent. Buy a store cupboard of food and all those little utensils that your old accomodation had that your new one doesn't. Buy travelcard to get to and from work.
Start work on 10th of month, payroll cut off is the 7th of the month. First pay check is six weeks away. All credit cards are maxed out, and you have no suitable clothes to wear to the office.

When you start your first job, because you're paid a month in arrears, you actually need to save a months salary to break even.

Hi, My dh wears suits every day for work. He has alot of meetings abroad with clients and has brought alot of suits over the years.
I usually buy his suits from Next but also M&S both not cheap but not bad price! My dh went to las vegas on business this year and brought a designer suit (ralph lauren) for alot of money, Sadly the suit has worn badly!!
So to get him by for a meeting he brought one from Asda for £50.00. I work for George clothing at asda and have had no problems with mens suits being returned. If the suit is just to get you buy then go for Asda, Tesco etc, you can buy a nice one when your back on your feet!
Just remember to buy two pairs of trousers as you will wear these more>
I hope this helps!! Good luck.
  • Go to M&S, buy a cheap plain suit, but here's the important thing:

Buy some good shirts and ties. The simplest thing is plain white shirt (like this nice double cuff shirt: http://www.marksandspencer.com/gp/product/B000NCSNV8/sr=1-1/qid=1224245659/ref=sr_1_1/277-7638610-5334422?ie=UTF8&node=&m=A2BO0OYVBKIQJM&keywords=&mnSBrand=core&size=9&rh=n:43521030,p_94:Double%20Cuff&page=1)

Personally, i've found nice ties in Moss Bros. 2 for 20 quid. City boys love it bold and bright with big stripes.

This way, you create new 'outfits' with new ties.

If you can't afford it - well... pay it off over a few months on a credit card. Think of it as an investment rather than a cost.

Personally - i'm an IT consultant and need to be suited and booted for client meetings. I've got my trusty washable grey M&S suit and a good selection of shirt and ties.
