Sofa from scs

In may last year we ordered and paid upfront £1700 for a corner sofa from scs, we got delivery of the sofa in july 07, by march 08 one of the cushions had gone really flat and a bit of wood inside the arm had broken I contacted scs and said that I wasn't happy with this as we hadn't had the sofa for even a year yet and it was falling apart, they sent someone round to look at it, he said that it was not a problem and he explained how he would refill the cushion and fix the wood and stitch it all back up, but he has to go back and do a report and give it to the powers that be at scs and they would contact me within 14 days with a date to come and do the work.
well within a few dyas i received a letter saying that they would not be fixing it as it was normal wear and tear, i said i was not happy with their findings as a sofa should last longer than 8 months, they said to me i would have to pay for an independant upholsterer to come out do a report and then go back to them, this would cost me £200. I didnt want to do this, so as stupid as it was i just left it, but now the seams are starting to all come undone. I have had to sew one up already and now 3 others are all coming undone. I wish i had paid on finance now as I would just refuse to pay for it until they fix it for me. I have only had the sofa 15 months, is there anything I can do to get scs to fix this for me?

Hi
I would recommend you get an independent inspection carried out, it will not cost you no where near £200 if you want to, pm your postcode and I could recommend an upholsterer to use.
Have you reported the seams splitting ?
If not do so & they should put them right at least.£80 in boots vouchers from pigsback.com - Balance: 820pp£15 in paypal from Lightspeed + £30 Halfords Vouchers£36.20 earned from onepoll so far£40 Tesco Vouchers - Valued Opinions:beer:0 -
I have just phoned them and they said its out of thier 12 month warranty period so no there is nothing they can do, so I said, I spend £1700 on a sofa and its not expected to last longer than a year? she then said i have to write to their head office, so that I will do.0

This is absolutely shocking, and it shouldn't matter that the sofa is now 17 months old. A £1700 sofa should last for around 5 years, not ONE!! I would pay the £200 for the independent report to be done, as this is blatantly not wear and tear. It's very likely that the report will be in your favour, so SCS will then have to pay for both the repair, and reimburse your £200. If they don't, you could take them to the small claims court.
Make sure you do all your correspondance with SCS in writing, and send ALL letters recorded delivery!I wish i had paid on finance now as I would just refuse to pay for it until they fix it for me. I have only had the sofa 15 months, is there anything I can do to get scs to fix this for me?
Actually it's probably a good thing you didn't pay on finance if you would do this, as you'd end up with a shocking credit rating, and balifs at your door!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
I'd let the balifs take the sofa lol0

If you write to the out of warranty department at head office you will have an independent upholsterer come out to inspect the suite - sent by the manufacturer hopefully they will see its not wear and tear£80 in boots vouchers from pigsback.com - Balance: 820pp£15 in paypal from Lightspeed + £30 Halfords Vouchers£36.20 earned from onepoll so far£40 Tesco Vouchers - Valued Opinions:beer:0

Yes thats who I have been told to write too.
we have sewn one of the seams up already so i hope that doesnt go agains't us, its juts that if we didnt it would have kept spreading, we now only sit on certain places as to not do anything to the other seams that are coming undone0 -
I doubt it will explain what you've said above, if you dont get anywhere with them then appoint your upholsterer to come out£80 in boots vouchers from pigsback.com - Balance: 820pp£15 in paypal from Lightspeed + £30 Halfords Vouchers£36.20 earned from onepoll so far£40 Tesco Vouchers - Valued Opinions:beer:0
