Don't use 1st class?

I heard ages ago that 1st and 2nd were dealt with the same way, and I only ever post 2nd, usually gets there next day. There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.0

I'm kind of sceptical about this. I know from experience that whilst mail to some parts of the country does seem to take the same amount of time, to other parts of the country, there can be a difference of at least one or two days.
Also, if the argument is that they only have one process, because it saves them money. Why still have all the extra costs of producing two different kinds of stamps, etc. Financially, that doesn't make sense.0 -
I thought that 2nd class was to be fazed out, but not sure where I got that from, but I asked the friendly people at my post office and they said it is all handled the same. There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.0

I always use 1st class post for sending my plant cuttings. They can look a mite tired if the post takes more than 2 days (Most times they get there next day ) and using 1st class it at least looks as if you did your best to get them there quickly.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Yes, just post everything three days earlier and use second class
It's good advice, but remember hat second class has a weight limit of 750g. That's approx 82,326,983,103,793,408,296,968,480,776.233,269,831,037,935,000,000,000,000,000 electrons so still quite good value. Can I help?0 -

I always send my ebay stuff second class but I do have a piece on all my auctions which says if they would like to have their item send first class I will adjust postaage. Only once in about 2000 transactions have I ever had anyone ask for this. It usually takes 2 days to get there at the most (3 days if your posting to London).2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

i would be happy to use second class usually but at this time of year i think it is better to use first.0

Doesnt make any difference to me as my buyers pay the postage anyway. In general I found people prefer to pay for 1st class than 2nd class anyway, even if it will save them a few pense.0

I live in the Southwest and my office sends lots of post (franked and in those red & green bags) to contacts in the Devon and Cornwall area, they are mostly documents that need signatures so can't be sent electronically. Sometimes first class post from Plymouth to Exeter takes 3 days. If we send things 2nd class, it can take up to a week, in worst cases 10 days.Marsh Samphire0
