I was thinking about your toddler and her curry in the car on the way to work this morning, and it suddenly occurred to me that a commercial curried babyfood would probably be the quite sweet kind of curry. You could try adding some banana and/or pineapple to the recipe I suggested - both good ways of getting towards her 5-a-day! Adding fruit to curry is quite authentic, especially in Malaysian curries (as well as some parts of India. Thanks for the idea re the fruit for sweetness - think I will take your advise on that and add banana..... will also add raisins as she loves them!

Its actually chilli powder that gives the 'kick' in curries. If you purchase some basic mild curry powder then this will give some flavour without the hot spice.
Curry powder is a blend of spices. You could research into just using 2 or 3 spices to give a bit of subtle flavour to begin with.
I'd suggest some but we buy ours from the local indian store and I dont know the english names for the spices we use - i always get them muddled up :rolleyes:Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0 -
LOL i was reading this thread earlier today...usually when we are having curry i make something else for me 21mth old....not today tho
I made turkey tikka masala...not too spicey...added some extra natural yoghurt in hers...and she wolfed it down!!
So thank you for inspiring me to get her to try some....alot less hassle for me in the kitchen on curry nights:j

I just add yogurt after cooking if its too spicy for my little ones & take out a portion before i put in salt/sugar etc. The irony here is that being asian i don't give our kids too much spicy food as its 'too hot' for their systems & go for the blander foods till the babies able to walk & hence able to process their food. Anyway another thing is adding a few strands of saffron in their breakfasts to keep colds away. Saffron is a 'warming' spice & as its not spicy its really good for them, i always do this every winter every other day, works a treat. Anyway am digressing, goodluckNo one said it was gonna be easy!0

When my three daughters were young money was very tight, so I usually gave them whatever I made for us sieved. This frequently included curry and chilli, generally I would season with the salt after I had removed their portion and would also leave out any chilli adding that after removing their portion. I always added any other spices at the usual times.0
