Mobile Phone Bleeding Screen...

Hello!
I just wondered if anyone can try and explain 'when a mobile phone screen bleeds'?
After finishing a call yesterday I looked at my screen and I have a a perfect rectangle at the top quarter of my screen that looks like what can only be described as a 'barcode'.
There are no lines shooting off, ink like blobs or anything else on the screen. There is also not a single scratch or mark on the outer LCD glass.
The reason I ask is because I rang CPW and explained it to them and they said to bring it in and they will send it away (2-4 weeks) and assess the damage. If it is due to pressure or water they will fix it for £45 or if it is found to be a fault with the screen they will fix it for free or exchange. Call me cynical but I just wanted to be a bit clearer as I have a feeling they may come back and say 'This has been caused by something you have done madam!' and then charge me.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

You can buy new LCD screens off of eBay for around £15 depending on the type of your phone. Normally you can find instructions on how to change it yourself on Youtube.
I know this because I was looking last night as my son has a broken screen on one of his Nokia phones.
What kind of phone is it?0 -

Its a Sony Ericsson w580i. The reason I ask is because I only bought the phone 8 weeks ago and if this isn't by any fault of my own and it is because the screen is defective then there is no way i'm going to fork out and pay them when they should replace it for free?

Oh, I see. I wouldn't want to pay if i'd only had it for 2 months either.0
