help please

my partner was laid off work on friday, this was sudden but half expected due to the buisness struggling latley, he is not entiled to redundancey pay as he had this in april when the owner left, but a new owner took over in april keeping the same staff so in effect he has only worked for 5 months there!
i dont work as ive been a stay at home mum for 5 years, we have 2 young children.
we thought we would get income support but apparently not as we are a couple. my partners working tax credits have stopped as well.
does anyone know what we would be intitled to, what we should claim as its all so confussing, we tried the calculator check but that doesnt seem to be right after we have rung tax credits.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your partner should be able to get jobseekers allowance.

your partner should claim income based JSA for the both of you. Do you have savings? (anything over £6000 affects the amount of money you're entitled to). You will also be entitled to council tax benefit and if you are renting housing benefit. If you have a mortgage check that yo have payment protection which can help with payments after the first month. You will get child tax credits and healthy start vouchers.
