CC for 17 yr old or as 2nd card holder

I did this with my son a few years ago when he was 17, so he could order cd's online as he only had a cash card (before then I ended up paying for them). I think it was with Capital One - I applied in my name and when it got to the additional card holder, they only wanted a name. Of course this may have changed, but in my case, the bills came in my name, so at the end of the day I was responsible for any resultant debt. Luckily my son used it sensibly and paid all the bills until he was old enough to get a card in his own name.
