Carpet Deposits

Recently I confirmed an order for £8,500.00 to carpet a complete house.
The carpet firm (Behars in Scotland) say that they require the full sum paid up prior to the start of the installation.
I am reluctant to pay so much up front without a carpet being laid, and I feel that I should be paying a percentage of the money after the carpets are laid and after I have agreed that the quality of workmanship is to my requirements.
Any thoughts on this subject ?

Tell them exactly what you have written above and get their response.
At the end of the day if that is what they want then its pay up or go elsewhere.
If you go ahead pay via Credit Card then you have the full protection of the CC Company if anything goes wrong.0 -
I would not dream of paying up front for a purchase like this. Even if you do, make sure it is on a Credit card. I might perhaps pay a deposit, but not a very large one say 25% at the most.If they cannot do this job without all the money first, then I would have serious doubts as to their financial viability.
As mulamute says, you are in the driving seat and there is no shortage of other carpet suppliers.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0
