Best way to get to Basingstoke from Heathrow?

We are moving to the Uk in late November from Australia.. Am wondering what the best way to get to Basingstoke is from Heathrow? I tried searching this on the web, but found only driving directions, and we won't have a car. Any advice welcome.

The simplest way is by coach - search on here
    http://www.nationalexpress.com/

Train services are geared to getting you to central London and so not suitable for going to Basingstoke which is in the opposite direction.

If you want to travel part by train, there are special rail-air coaches that run from Heathrow to Reading and Heathrow to Woking. Both Woking and Reading have regular trains to Basingstoke, and you can get an inclusive ticket (a single ticket is 18.20 via Woking).

If national express do one coach though, that in all fairness will be easier for you.
  • its not a massive distance so a taxi is not out of the question

How many of you are there

what time are you arriving, how much stuff will you have

If your arriving in the middle of the night i would go for a taxi

If you have masses of stuff i would go for a taxi

If its just a couple of adults a few bags and day time i would go for a train

Im not familiar with national express but if they do a 1 trip coach i would go with that (allthough i found getting from gatwick to southampton very troublesome with them, in the end i rang a friend to get me)

Do you not have any friends in Basingstoke to come and get you, its only about 1 hour away from there if the traffic is ok

You will have been on an aircraft and moving through 3 airports (stopping briefly at somewhere like Singapore) for over 24 hours by the time you get to Heathrow. Don't mess about with public transport, get a Taxi. Give the taxi company your flight number and he can meet you off the plane holding a sign up with your name on it so you can find each other.
Don't worry about delays on the flight the taxi driver can look up expected time of arrival before he leaves to collect you.
I live near Basingstoke, on a clear road Heathrow to Basingstoke is about 40 minutes but could be up to twice as long if there is heavy traffic. I would suggest getting a taxi company in Basingstoke to do the job. £60 or so should cover it.
You can even book on-line here, they advertise the airport pick up service:

If your calling from outside the UK phone 44 1256 220020

You can take an underground train (partly overground) from Heathrow to London Waterloo railway station and then get a train from there to Basingstoke, but I advise against it carrying luggage and being exhausted from the journey. In fact if you get into Waterloo in the morning rush hour carrying luggage you will have a hell of a time getting through the heaving crowds of people.
    Good luck!
