Well we have had 15% drops, so it it crazy to think that we'll have 80%?

    I don't think so... ;)

It's interesting to see the wild panic that an economic downturn is having on some posters. I guess this is the first one they have seen and so anything seems possible.

    True.
I just hope some people are not pushed into making very bad decisions by the 'end of the world' rhetoric.

Steve you often quote figures suggesting that prices cant drop this much because houses would be so cheap then.

The fact is in Japan house prices did drop 80%, prices really were 80% cheaper but still it wasnt worth buying because rents dropped the same amount or more.

I cant wait to quote some of the things you said on here in a few years ちめ :)

    What is that?

BY the way, I have never suggested we will have the same 80% drops in the UK.

I have always said 50% average and I stick to what I said.

Some areas may see 80% drops to make the 50% average country wide.

In Japan acording to moneyweek‘s James Furguson who knows his sh*t (used to be a stock broker in Tokyo) they had an AVERAGE 80% drop.

So please dont accuse me of starting the 80% club I just quoted James Furgason from Money week about Japan. I agree with Money week that we are looking at half price average house prices in the UK.

If your PC can display Japanese text you could see what I said.

I do speak Japanese not quite fluent yet, (I lived in Japan) so I am not full of BS when I say I know about what happened in Japan.

It never ceases to amaze me how many on here feel they know all about it because they read a couple of articles.

I am convinced about certain similarities with what happened in Japan and what will happen in the UK.

Obviously there are differences only a fool would try and say it will be exactly the same. But on the other hand only a fool would dismiss the fact that what we are going through right now is very similar to what happened in Japan.

Of course it is deflation - but my understanding was Japan was a beautiful picture of financial health compared to how the UK is now... with trillions of yen in foreign reserves and a profitable advanced manufacturing base, with many companies leaders in new technologies.

We've partied it up with debt fuelled consumption, two ongoing wars, and house prices near trebling over 11 years.

I Just translated it, very clever RDB. I like it.

Has anyone else took the trouble to translate it?
