A chastening experience...

... and certain to knock the ego... I couldn't get BHS to give me a store card!

I was in the Preston store and saw that if I had a store card I could get upto 15% off... so I asked the girl on the checkout how long it took.. "just a couple of minutes and you'll also get a complimentary bottle of wine today".

WOW :)

So I duly completed the form and they rang it through. Bingo... rejected!

No explanation (obviously nthing to do with BHS but...). I was gobsmacked.. have never been rejected before in my life! Also somewhat embarrassing...

They gave mea leaflet advising me to wrtie to "The The Appeals Officer, Credit Decisions, PO Box 700, Leeds, LS99 2BD" (no phone numbers).

Anyone ever found anything useful by trying to follow up WHY they were rejected (eg so you can try and fix the problem)

It wasn't all bad.. as I picked up my bags I found a £1 coin on the floor :)

OMG!!! Looks like you haven't got enough debt and pay off your cards regularly? I.e. you aren't a promising/profitable victim for whoever operates the BHS storecard, hehe

But seriously: there could be something untoward and/or incorrect on your credit file. It's not worth appealing (that will just result in more visible searches on your credit file) but you might want to check your credit file. Use one of the free 30-day trials to save £2 for the Experian check (Credit Expert) - cancel before the 30 days are up. Don't know of any freebies for Equifax.

(If you use edealsUK, you might get a £2 credit in your edealsUK account for signing up to the Credit Expert trial).
