  • Well it was certainly a lot lot better than no TV series of your own...

I do worry about ITV's assumption that daytime TV viewers can't cope with anything remotely resembling detail and need entertaining six times in 25mins with the money pig (cool though it undoubtedly was ;) )

For example, we found out that as a result of the credit card phone call "Texaco said no but Virgin said yes" but hadn't even been told they were card providers. So long as the piggy got fed.

As we know from this site, and Martin's blog, he doesn't have a say in the editorial process and would no doubt love to be doing MSE TV. I suppose you have to run with what you're given.

Nice to see you up north though, can we tempt you to stay?

Wow  . Hmm, might need to tie a few knots in a hanky for that schedule!

Thanks Daveboy, I'll copy and paste that list and stick it on my PC screen :).

Thought ITV's editing was a bit dodgy - one minute she can't afford childcare costs (understandable with four kids) then at the very end the programme says she is going back to work - put in like it was something that had been built up throughout but it was just a quick line about her working from home and grandma looking after the kids.

Also, not clear how she made £300 from ebay...did she actually sell £300 worth of childrens clothes?

Same with the car - was it that he needed the second car for work? If so then why not a discussion on downsizing.

No criticism of the fundamentals which I am sure were all there, more how the editors presented it to the viewers. But it just reinforces what savings you can make relatively painlessly. Although they should keep the disposables!

I thought it was really good! But my parrot wasn't impressed. He sat with his back to the TV for the first half and then wandered off. But it is his birthday.

Compared to your other TV series work this is far more grown up, you must be very pleased with the results. As others have said it could probably do with an extra 15 minutes, but none the less excellent well done!! icon14.gif

I'm sure theres only so much they can fit into a 30 minute programme. Those people were living so far beyond their means it was unbeliveable. It wasnt clear how the wife managed to get back to work. Was she working from home? All that is OK while her children are little babies but what about when they start running around and getting into everything, potty training and everything else that toddlers do? I cant imagine it would be so easy to run a hairdressing business from home then.

But having said that, it was a great programme which made me think about my finances yet again.I think I've cut back on just about everything since I realised how much debt I was in.

This was the bit that concerned me. My mum is a hairdresser and unless they've changed the rules you need to ask permission from the local council before clients can come to your house for their hair done. For the rest I'd have liked a bit more detail but realise it's only a half hour show. I think the other money shows get an hour. Look forward to seeing the rest.
  • I'm gutted I missed it!!

    Will have to watch tomorrow.

    The pig sounds interesting though!

That's the one. Interesting Martin mentions getting the full financial story in his blog over this one, as that seems to be what most people are saying on here. I hope they put to good use those disposible nappies in the skip though.
