Dont know what it is - but---

Had to have a new hard drive on my laptop-( son dropped it). It seemed Ok at first, but I kept getting a window telling me that I wasn't authorised to use this version of windows. I just clicked cancel and it disappeared. Today, my desktop picture was completely black, with just the descktop icons on. I reistalled my usual background, but when I turn the laptop off, it disappears again. Also, there is now a message in the bottom right hand of the screen saying that this is not a genuine version of windows. Could it be that the shop where I had it fixed has put a pirate copy of windows on it? any opinions?

Almost certainly, the silly thing is, you almost certainly have a licence for windows (probably on a sticker under the lappy). if the version you have on now is same as on originally, phone microsoft and they should be able to sort it (i think)

I'd contact Microsoft and tell them the shop has installed pirated version of windows :-)

thanks for replies. I realised that when I was getting this window, I was just cancelling it, so now, I activated it and registered the product key ( I can be a bit dumb at times ). Hopefully, it will right itself now, although I've still got that little message in the right hand corner saying that this is not a genuine copy of windows vista. I'm going to contact the shop

You usually have 30days to register your OS, has it gone beyond that? or the shop could have used the wrong OS for your keycode (retail/OEM)?
