I have started mystery shopping in the last 2 months but so far have only managed 1 job. I am about to go online to register as self-employed anyway so that I don't miss the 3 month deadline but I'm confused about the Small Earnings Certificate.
I currently have a full time job and am also pregnant and am wondering if I'm best off applying for the Small Earnings Certificate or if for the puposes of maternity pay I'm better off not applying. Any advice welcomed. If you have no other earnings, I'm assuming you are not paying NI. You might want to reconsider the Small Earnings Certificate.
By paying Class 2 NI (which is around £2.10 a week), it counts towards your state pension and makes you eligble for things like maternity allowance and incapacity benefit should you need it. If you have a small earnings certificate, you only get £27 a week maternity, however by paying NI, I got £112 a week.
The self assessment form only asks for your final figures for the year, rather than a breakdown if your profits are under approx £15K. However, you do need to keep some sort of accounting system showing money coming in and your expenses with receipts etc, just in case you get audited or anything like that.
You can do self assessment on the web with no software. It's all done through HMRC website and you just fill the boxes in. It's not as daunting as it seems!0 -
Does anyone know anything about RE B2B? I have been "accepted" but not entirely sure what this means, and there is no info on their website.

Don't some become 'unavailable' to see on screen once you've selected assignments?
edit: oops that's what you just said lol0 -

If you are full time, I assume your employer will pay you SMP based on your class 1 NIC's which are taken off before you get your salary. In your case you might as well claim Small Earnings and get the certificate to save paying the Class 2 contributions.
The advantage of paying Class 2 NIC's to gain maternity allowance is for ladies who are not employed enough hours to claim SMP through an employer, or not employed at all. Here I go again on my own....0 -
I have just accepted my first job for Retail Active; can anyone tell me what they're like to work for, please?0

Business to Business enquiries. I've got these, did you provided RE with your work email address? I think it just means that your email address is valid for use in the business related enquiry.0 -
