  • OMG! I accepted an assignment yesterday at a bingo hall and went last night. I was umming and ahhing about whether to go because its an assignment you have to do by yourself so I felt a bit silly, and I have never been to a bingo hall before. Thank goodness I went. I won £250! Yipee!!!!!! At this time of year I couldn't have needed it more. Get accepting those assignments in your area!

Well done mysterious girl. I enjoy the bingo assignments too!

A-bai - I think it's just searching by your local county and leaving the second box empty.

  • Hi

So the Tax return needs to be done by the end of January!

What dates should this return cover?

    Help would be appreciated

The advice below assumes nothing has changed since I first registered.....

OK, you have nearly a whole month to do this if you were actually working in the tax year 2007-8. But you must sign on NOW as you will need them to send them your UTR (unique tax reference) for doing it online. This can take up to 2 weeks.

Applying for your UTR will take about 10 seconds, from memory, but DO IT NOW so you can be sure of getting your return in on time.

The actual online tax return sounds and feels very scary but is actually really simple. You will need 1. your total earnings (including reimbursements) for the year, 2. your expenses (computer, phone, printing, travel and necessary expenditure) figure. Take 2 from 1 to calculate your profit. All the MS companies you work for on a self-employed basis are added together to produce these figures.

If you have other employment, or are actually employed by any MS companies, you will also need your end of year p60(s) for the employment.

If you pay higher rate tax it will also benefit you if you have details of any charitable donations or other tax-deductable expenses.

Getting together this info is about 90% of the work. Now all you need to do is to enter the information into their form - it really doesn't take very long and you will feel GREAT once you have done it! (I've already done mine - can you tell!)
Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).

You won't have to file your SE tax return until end of Jan 2010.
Since you started in the 08-09 tax year.

Am I correct in thinking, however, that we can file the return sooner if we want to? I'm one of those (sad) people who worry about forms and stuff and really want it over and done with. I anticipate receiving the form in March/April and then being able to submit it as soon as I have all the required info. That's the way I used to do it - but that was years ago, before we had the internet and online submissions.
