Problems with 2 fridge freezers

Its about 7 to 8 years old, it has electronic display warning if its too warm and has selection for fast freeze and eco mode (its frost free)

Just lately fridge hasn't been very cold yet the freezer is too cold, ice cream rock hard our other freezer isn't like this that we bought last year in garage

Every time we turn it off for 5-10 minutes the lights go off when we switch it back on and seems fine for a few hours and then red flashing light warning is its too hot, it runes on number 9 which is highest setting and it still not cold enough

We cleaned back and cleaned where the water goes that sits on the compressor and pipe that runs down back that allows water to run down so it boils over compressor in a plastic tray. We have now have it off for 30 minutes as we noticed the compressor is really hot.

I suspect its working too hard hence why its hot, I think we are wasting energy now

I know its old but its been great until now

Funny think is when we moved house in feb 06 we used the one that came with house but we had same problem with fridge being cold so we got rid and bought a freezer (in garage) and used the old fridge freezer and its been fine for about a year, but it seems odd two fridge freezer have gone in about a year in same place.

I am not sure if its the seals, although they look okay or the compressor

Any suggestions thanks

I dont believe this, the fridge is working its socks off to keep cool and it isnt working, freezer is over cold. I got it on some kitchen slate tiles in a corner on its own (L shaped) it isn't near a cooker but a radiator is behind the other wall in through lounge. Yet I moved it tonight in the garage (integral) and the display now reads 8. So why the hell is this the 2nd time a fridge freezer we have had in less than 2 years goes like this.

Sounds like it needed regassing, but that's just a guess really.

Thanks but two freezer seemed to have gone in same place in less than one year, granted one was from what we inherited from house we bought, we brought the old one from old house which we didnt use for 1st year, but then we the one we inherited packed in we replaced with the old one we brought from old house.

The one now giving us trouble is working fine judging by teh digital display it was on 9 (full) and still not working, now its on 6 in a cold garage

So it must be where its kept, but why?

The kitchen is around 21-24c tops and although its a through kitchen to a dining room, that can get fairly cold and dark during this time of year unless we have the wood burner on. Funny thing is last year the kitchen could get up to 26c until we decided to have the woodburner on less and not burn so much pallet wood

I know the one now playing up is fairly old around 7-9 years old, its juts strange its happening now.

We got a new one coming on Tuesday and I am worried this may play up
