  • Go plasma and do listen to the sets before you purchase and have it proffessionally installed to the wall, or a decent plinth.

my rear projection set blew up last night so went out to buy a new lcd, got the samsung LE40A656, well impressed with it, lots of connectivity, surprised by how good the picture looks, a friend has a year old lcd and the picture has always looked well dodgy, blurry, ghosting etc, and watching football on it is a mare !! looks like things have advanced somewhat, all down to personnal choice, cost ec. I would recommend this model. richer sounds had it for £719, my last tv was sony that was fine too, i think it's luck of the draw regards breaking down, just like cars etc. as for lcd v plasma the choice is yours, got the lcd samsung for the spec, look and price.

Once again on a TV thread I'm going to second AlienRik. Get a Panasonic TH-37PX80. Plasma TV's generally give a better picture with Standard Definition pictures than LCD's and from what you said they'll be watching SD not HD.

I bought the TH-37PX80 recently and it is a superb television. It's also relatively cheap. I think you can get it for about £540 online.

If they want a 32" LG have recently launched a 32" plasma TV the 32PG6000 which is also getting excellent reviews. I'm planning on getting my mother one in a coupe of months.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

  • General rule of thumb is LCD for anything under 42", plasma for anything over 36" - yes I know there's an overlap, just call it the area of increased choice.

Samsung and Panasonic are the top contenders, I always find with Sony you're paying a little bit more for the name. I've got a 26" Samsung LCD (currently used as a computer monitor as my old one died a death - picture is good but for a computer monitor isn't excellent. Downstairs we have a 50" Panasonic (and that seems small at times) and the picture is brilliant - if it ever dies (heaven forbid) I'd have no hesitation popping down to the shops and getting another one tomorrow - funds permitting.

Go with the sony Donna ;)

the cons in this review make it sound bad though. i dont know what alot of it actually means. why they cant just say it in plain english i dont know. it is also only a 8 bit screen as opposed to a 10 bit on later models.

Its just number of colours, nothin to worry about ~ trust me, itll be a great tv
Thats a great site actually, they REALLY go into their reviews. Just bare in mind NO tv is perfect ~ although reaching into the 3k+ tvs will be close to perfection

As ive said. NO tv is perfect, and your trying to buy a decent one 'cheap'. CHEAP means its going to have SOME problems wether you like it or not.

In that context, it means you MIGHT have to manually change the screen type when viewing NTSC films. And the 'jaggies' are noticeable when it shouldnt be. But FOR THE MONEY, you sure has hell aint going to do any better.
