Hi
Hope somebody will be able to advise.
I have a Creda Ceram ceramic hob (I inherited it when I moved in to my house and I reckon it was ancient then !Its a great big one twice the length of the modern ones)
Anyway, a jar of cook in sauce (tricky little blighters !) fell out of the cupboard above my hob today and despite not shattering itself,(tough stuff that red wine sauce!), has made a nasty crack or two in the ceramic hob !! . My problem is this...they dont make hobs this size any more and its too old to get a replacement glass I think?? So what do I do ? Do I get a kitchen type fitter person to have a look at my tiled worktop that its currently fitted in ,with a view to having to replace the whole shebang or do I buy a hob myself, and then find first a joiner to sort out my worktop and then an electrician to fit my hob ?????
I have very little spare cash ( does anybody !!) and dont want to be hobless for any length of time. My hob does still work by the way but it doesnt look too safe to me! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you able to claim on your home insurance. I used to have a ceramic hob cooker which I cracked (I stepped back on it when I was painting the kitchen wall) and our insurance paid out for a replacement top, and the oven was black and silver!!!0

Thanks for the advice denise
I have been able to claim on the insurance but they would only pay out for a new hob and didnt allow any extra cash for the worktop re-design that is going to be necessary methinks
Advice on who to contact first would still be great please (any kitchen or hob people out there!!) I know I could order a hob from say Currys etc but they dont install when it wont fit my hole ! I should imagine..OOeerrr missus but if i get a joiner to come and fit a new area of worktop I won't have a hob anymore until I can get someone to fit that...if you see what my dilemma is please help !!!!
Thanks Jiggly0 -
Sounds like an excuse for a minor kitchen makeover to me.
It depends what you want to do with the space left by the smaller new hob. If you're happy with non matching tiled area, then any carpenter/experienced DIYer could make good the worktop. Sounds like a day job for a kitchen fitter though as you'll get the carpentry/tiling/electrical skills all in one.
Alternative is a new worktop but then what of the sink etc?Signature on holiday for two weeks0 -

Any way you look at its a bit costly I suppose! How much do you reckon a kitchen fitter charges for a job like that????
And how much spare change can I find down the back of the sofa ???????

I know its a long shot but have u checked if creda have the hob glass in stock? if they have your looking at around £100 with parts and fitting. u can then compare price with any quotes u get for redesigning work top.0

are you sure no one makes that size anymore?
can you get a bigger one and just make a bigger hole with a jigsaw?
if it comes to it just get a new top and cut it to suit the new hob. new worktops are not that expensive.Get some gorm.0 -
Thanks for the replies guys....:T
papalaz Creda don't do spares from this long ago..I would'nt say it was old but I think the only other person who had this hob was Noah !!!!
Ormus Thanks for your comments too, reassuring to know worktops arent that expensive ( never had to buy one before:D ) as for buying a bigger hob and cutting out more worktop...I aint braggin but you cant get bigga babe!!!:p thats my problem...everything nowadays is at the very least 5 cm smaller than my current antique!! so I cant just take it out and slot a new bad boy in effortlessly, it will need a restructure of my tiled worktop and a cheap but cheerful kitchen fitter I feel......not sure where to find a gud un' cheap though. (Any tips appreciated I'm in South Yorks by the way)
cheers Jiggly:beer:0
