Hi,
My family is coming up to the uk for about 10 days from 19th dec till 30 dec. I was thinking of bringing them up to lake district since they have already been to london many times. Is it a viable option though? or will it be too cold/closed? Never been there myself and any advice would be much appreciated. Also, does anyone else have anywhere or an intinery to recommend for a road trip? We will be leaving from london and will prob be back on e 24-26th in london to spend christmas, and would need plans for the rest of the time.

The Lakes will probably be quite busy that time of the year due to school holidays. Nothing closes down in the lakes and it is a great time of year to visit. We like Bowness which mixes modern with old world and from there you can get boats from Windermere to either Lakeside or Ambleside. (Afternoon Tea at Lakeside would probably go down well). Grasmere and Hawkshead are quite nice villages to visit. Keswick is much bigger and in my opinion a bit old fashioned but everyone who has been to the Lakes will have different opinions of the towns. If you are bringing them up North and they have never been then Chester/Scotland are only and hour and a half or so from the Lakes and worth a visit.0

If you get good weather, sight seeing alone will fill your days. Especially with a good pub lunch thrown in. However if the weather is bad and the fells are covered in cloud there will be little to see, although the pub lunch will still be good.
The lakes are very very quiet up to christmas - over new year it gets very busy.0 -
Hi, If you are thinking of going to the Lakes before the 25thDec. There is a hotel in Bowness overlooking Windermere Lake that has a great deal on its called The Belsfield Hotel tel 0844 736 8604 fax 015394 46397. They have a pre Xmas sale. £40 per night per person for bed breakfast and evening meal. They have family rooms also. There is a swimming pool. You have to quote "Late Breakers 2008 pre Christmas Sale" when booking to get the offer. Im not sure how busy the lakes will be just before Xmas. I have stayed at this hotel a few years ago and when they have deals on its very good value for money. Anyway check it out and I hope you and your family have a great time in England. Happy Christmas0
