Extended Warranty Nightmare!

Hi,

Please excuse me if this is in the wrong place, this is my first post!

I have an extended warranty on my TV, in july this year my TV started to switch itself off as and when it felt like it. I called the Service agreement number and a repair centre came out and soldered a few bits, said it would be fine and left. 3 weeks later the TV started switching off again, same senario called the agreement company, Tv repair man came out a few days later, soldered some more bits etc. A few weeks after this it happened again and this time I was told it would be taken away to be fixed, TV re-delivered a week later only for the same thing to happen again!!!!!!!!!!!
I called the agreement company and demanded something was done as the situation was getting redicoulous, I was then told the TV would need to be collected again but not for a repair but for a report to be done so a replacement could be authorised. Thought finally things would be ok, but oh no! The repair centre called me a week after collecting the TV to say there was no problem and would be returning it the next day. When they brought the TV back the guy saifd a new component was fitted and all would be ok. Called the agreement company to ask what was going on, as the TV was not supposed to be repaired only a report made, they told me their technical dept. would get back to me within 48 hours.
Well, after 3 days of having my TV repaied for the 4th time in 3 months its started doing exactly the same thing!!!!!!!!! Called the agreement company again and was told someone would call me tomorrow and the problem had been escalated! I am utterly fed up of being on the phone, wasting my credit, making sure i'm in between 8 and 8 when they collect/deliver the TV. What else can I do????? The warranty is due to run out on the 19th Oct!

As an aside, have you ruled out any problems your end first? e.g. have you tried it direct in a power socket, not an extension cable? Have you tried a different power socket?

I wouldn't worry too much about the warranty running out if it's an ongoing problem. As far as replacements etc go, then if you're claiming under the warranty then you're pretty much bound by the terms of the warranty. How old is it?

Thanks for replying, the TV is plugged directly into the socket. My OH is an telecomms engineer and works for a big cable provider and has made sure it couldn't be anything else.
The TV is 7 years old which I know is quite old, it's just the point of paying for a service/warranty for all this time and when it's needed nothing seems to happen.
I'll wait and see what they say when/if they call me tomorrow.

Only advice would be to keep on at them and double check if there's any terms about how many times they get to repair it. The 'how old was it' question was to rule out any statutory avenues you could go down, but you're way past that stage now. Surprised they offered you a warranty that extended to 7 years, but if they're prepared to let you pay for it they should be prepared to pay out on it.

    :j Update:
Just had a call from the warranty company to say a replacement has been authorised and that the catalogue company the TV was originally purchased from will be in touch to arrange the replacement!
