Credit card conversion fees

I am going on a cruise and will use my mastercard to pay all the onboard expense this will be charged in US$ the cruise co will either convert the charges to sterling at the wholesale rate at the time of payment + a 3% fee
or allow me to let my card issuer to convert my expense to sterling which do you think will be the best option

Cheers:beer:

Check the fees charged by your credit card here: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/overseas-card-charges

Since all cards listed on that link charge less than 3% over the wholesale rate, I would stick to paying in USD.
Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks

And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning
  • So your saying let my credit card issuer convert the us$ to sterling

Yes - assuming that your credit card charges less than 3%, which is true for all the cards listed on the link I posted. If possible get a Nationwide/Post Office/Abbey Zero card to avoid any charges.
