Mobile Speed Camera (suffolk safecam) ones

Hi all i know this is a bit of a stupid question but i ll ask anyway...

i was on the A11 sat morning in between 11.30 and 12.30 towards barton mills roundabout and when i came from the dual carriage way (70mph) into the 50mph speed limit before the roundabout i saw a mobile speed camera and i think my speed was around 52-59mph and was wondering what the likely hood of being caught is?? i rang them up today to see if i had been caught and they said i m not on their system yet or that i havent been caught. i know i was speeding and hold my hands up.

this is even worse for me as when younger i was stupid and i ve got 9 points already and cant afford anymore as if i get 12 its usually a ban and if this is the case i ll loose my job but i understand before people say "its your own fault" i know that but its not that i was going past doing 65+ in the 50.

anyone got any advice and maybe could tell me how long it takes for their computer system to put me on it if i d got caught on sat 11th oct????
i know they have to have sent a letter etc before 14days as this is a legal requirement or something but can i know sooner by ringing them up in a few days???

i m c**pping it as i dont wanna loose license but my stupid arrogence could see it that way.

I think you'll just have to wait and see what happens. I got caught about 5 years ago by a camera van and the letter came through the door within 48 hours (which I was amazed with given our postal service!).but I've no idea whether thats normal or not.

The ACPO guidelines are speeds set at 10% + 2 before prosecuion , therefore you need to have been doing 58mph in a 50 to be in play

it is likely that the local old bill will have increased this to higher, 59 or 60mph is most likely

they have 14 days to issue you a nip (notice of intended prosecution) regarding speed. After this you will know you are clear.

you state you were 'younger' with the 9 points, I hope you are aware they only last for 3 years then come off.

Worst case scenario, ie you have 9 live points and you recieve a nip, you will get a court date. If you need your licence to keep your job, you can plead to the court ti increase the cash penalty to avoid disqual. HGV drivers tend to do this. Also volunteering for extra driver training would be looked upon favourably but as I say, this is the worst case scenario.

From what you said at the speed you quote, I reckon you will have got away with it.

The 10% + 2mph is actually the minimum speed which is elegible for prosecution, so in theory they could do you for 57 in a 50 limit.

However, most car speedos overread by up to 10%, so an indicated 59 would actually be about 54-55.

I wouldn't advise phoning the scammers, that's only going to bring your situation to someone's attention, and they'll make doubly sure they get the papers out inside 14 days, if applicable.

But by the sound of it, you should be well under the enforcement threshold, so just watch out for that spot in future.

Also be aware that travelling in the other direction matey boy sits out of view round a left hand bend just after the red lodge turn in the 70mph limit.

I would suggest that an investment in a sat nav and a subscription to a safety camera service might save your job. If you have already got 9 points and you are still speeding (no criticism intended) then you would appear to need constant reminding of your possible loss of license and job.

chances are 52 on your speedo may be nearer 46 real mph

i went through one showing near 80mph (70 zone)on the speedo further back along the a11 and never got a ticket

I'm surprised you haven't received a barrage of abuse by now - its only a matter of time I suppose.

Anyway, I would say you probably weren't caught - your speedo probably over-reads a bit - most cars do (although not all) your actual speed was probably less than you think.

It's not normally 'abuse', more like 'moralising finger-wagging' that doesn't answer the OP's question, something along the lines of:

"If you can't do the time, don't do the crime"

"You know the law, it's your own fault if you're caught"

"Didn't you get the message the first few times?"

i know i was expecting abuse but i ve learnt my lessons and until now i ve been an incredibly steady safe driver doing 10mph over the limit is an offence am accept that but when i see drivers doing over 100 and not get stopped thats what does annoy me at times. i made mistakes a few yrs ago am now 25 and have only been driving bout 7-8 yrs and now i m paying the price but fully hold my hands up and say i was stupid and careless.
