AMAZON only offering 6 months guarantee!

 I have just been talking to Amazon customer services about a faulty item. They informed me that their future policy is to only offer 6 months warranty on all goods. Also because my product was 10 months old and no longer available they would NOT offer an alternative replacement. It took me 4 phone calls to 'persuade' them to refund an item costing less than £20. They also said that Trading Standards had been told of this new policy.
What is going on with this world?
I won't be buying anything from them and will check that others are not gonna follow their lead!

nearly every item has a years guarantee on it some even have 2years.
it looks like they are trying to pull a fast one on you i would ring ts your self to make sure they know whats what0 -
Why did you ring them up, just do a return online and it will print out a pre paid label and you can book a courier as well if its a large item0

The warrenty doesn't effect your consumer rights, just gives them an excuse to try to bend the law. The law states the product must be fit for pupose and last a reasonable length of time. Do we really think a judge will accept and electrical item should only last 6 months,I think not. The trouble is companies use these so called "warrantees" and "guarrantees" (sp?) to confuse people and to try and wriggle out of their legal obligations.

I got a refund finally after 4 phone calls to them and 1 to the manufacturer. However the person from customer services definately confirmed that Amazon are only offering 6 month warranty. I asked them several times to confirm this. They said it was coming from higher management and even they (customer services) are concerned about it!
If you look at any item on Amazon they tell you about their 30 day policy but outside of this there is no mention (as far as I can see) of the guarantee they offer. You cannot do a on-line return for items older than 30 days-you have to phone customer services (which luckily is currently a freefone number at the moment).
You have been warned:money: Ask about the guarantee first if you must buy from them!0 -

You'll find that what they are doing is probably within the letter of the law, but not perhaps the spirit. You see as far as I can tell amazon will still offer to get the item fixed - you might well find that a judge agrees that after 6 months repair is an appropriate remedy."One thing that is different, and has changed here, is the self-absorption, not just greed. Everybody is in a hurry now and there is a 'the rules don't apply to me' sort of thing." - Bill Bryson0
