Tax Credits Help please

Hi I have been receiving wtc and the childcare element of ctc for years now. I recently had a major dispute with my boss, which has resulted in me giving in my notice, the last day I worked was 05/09/2008, I then went off sick as he had put me under that much stress I could not face being in there, my notice was due to run until end of Sept. He contacted me on 15/09/2008 and said I didn't need to work my notice, and would send my P45. I've only just got it today and he's dated it the 5/09/2008, now I haven't informed tax credits yet as I was waiting for my P45 and thought I still had a few days as it shoudl state the 15/09/2008 (which would of been within the month for changes to be notified). Am I going to get fined now? I hate phoning them up always feel like you've done something wrong.
