Spotted in Sun newspaper:
ASUS laptop in Morrisons £199
8.9" screen, built in webcam, 16GB memory, 16B RAM, WiFi, Linux operating system, weighs less than 1kg
Sounds a real bargain! Was in Morrisons yesterday too & the ad I seen had one for £299...hope this isn't a mis-print in paper! :j

I'm afraid i wouldn't bother with the size of it and the spec. A calculator is more powerful than what you've just described. Sorreeee :cool:0

sounds like this is actually an eee pc 900 and £200 is an ok price for that model.0

I'm after a laptop for my 9yr old dd so I think this will be just fine for her!Big thanks to all who contribute to the forums. Be lucky everyone and be safe!0

does the 900 have an optical drive? i have a feeling it does not.0
-
no it doesn't.
pretty much all of these little netbooks have no optical drive that's why they so small0 -
these things are only really meant for browsing the net so I'd say that spec is par for the course"a workman, even of the lowest and poorest order, if he is frugal and industrious, may enjoy a greater share of the necessaries and conveniences of life than it is possible for any savage to acquire."0

and office style apps and playing video and music files and some classic games like monkey island 2.0 -
I disagree with some of the posts it is an excellent buy !!
There are a couple of reasons that it is:
Very small (can fit in most handbags) and is great for someone who travels on train but does does not want to carry around hefty laptop.
While it comes with linux installed (with all the programs you need such as star office, firefox and skype) you can install windows XP and run the majority of programs the average user would want (Microsoft Office, internet explorer movie player etc)
Unlike a normal laptop this contains something called a solid state drive (bit like USB pen drive) meaning that it is less likely to break if you drop it !!
Also this is a second generation eee (bigger screen, better battery life more hard disk space)0 -
Not so sure about the battery life - thought it was worse than the earlier 701 and very slightly later 901..?0

The 900 suffers from the battery draining when switched off. This has not yet been resolved by Asus. Every time I came to use mine the battery was flat. I sent it back.0
