Yes I have just checked £6.99 now. They have stuck another £1.00 on to make a bit more money.

Which means that the other deals I highlighted here are now a lot more attractive, providing you want more than the 4GB storage.

Great value, thanks for this. A 4GB stick will be handy to back up picture files while I'm travelling, just in case my camera gets stolen. Thanks :)

You can get these cheaper on eBay - about £6.25 incl P&P, but the bulk buy deals on play.com sound good.

On removing such drives - I would strongly recommend NEVER just pulling a stick out. This might work most of the time, but sod's law clause 8752 states that it will always corrupt a file just when you don't want it to. In addition to removing it safely from under 'My Computer' or via the tray icon, you can also right click the drive letter representing the stick in Windows Explorer (at least under Vista) and choose 'Remove safely'. However, if you have a programme which is either viewing the contents of the stick (eg if your explorer window is displaying the stick contents) or a file on the stick is open (eg in word processor, spreadsheet, etc) you will have to close these or shift the explorer focus to another drive before it'll tell you that you can remove it safely.
    Cheers,

If you dont want to loose data it is always best to eject it via safe unplug method in taskbar

Sometimes you can removes usb flash driver before all the data is written

How else would one "eject" one of these usb pens? I only push mine,(the only way), and pull it out, I wasn't aware of another way, could someone tell me if I am doing wrong and what I should be doing? Thanks

When inserted, I have a "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in my tool tray!

I lost over 200gb of data on Sunday due to usb HD failing.

Luckily most of the data is backed up on another usb HD. and another HD and some on DVD

It just goes to show even portable hardware can and does fail
This seems like pretty dodgy reasoning. You should assume that any consumer-grade storage might well fail tomorrow. Your hard drives (inside or out), CDs, pen drives, anything. It would be stupid of me to think I was safe with one copy just because my pen drive happens to be the one that CNET article said was solidly constructed (although I'm quite pleased :p).

For important documents, it's far more important to have it on as many devices as you can at once than for each device to be a little more reliable. And in very important cases, at least one of these should be remote, in case someone nicks your whole carefully designed backup system at once, or burns your house down.

A bit late now for anyone who has purchased, but sign up to Mutual Points and check out which on-line sites they work with, and instead of going directly to sites such as Play.com, go via the link under 'Shops', you then get ?% points back (varies each site). 1.00% Points Back play.com

    http://www.mutualpoints.com/

    Get a cheque from MutualPoints.com
Once you've earned 3,000 or more points you can redeem them for cash.

    3,000 Points are worth £20.00.
Every additional 750 points are worth £5.00.

Also you get regular emails to advertise other sites and offers, and on most of these emails if you click on the link you get 5 points just to view the page (not all offer points, but most do), I don't read the page but just access it to gain 5 points!
Had several cheques to date and nearly due another.

Just for the sake of completeness, but for those with Macs you can safely remove USB drives by right clicking on the icon for it on the desktop and selecting 'eject'. It should then disappear from your desktop, at which point you can remove it.
